How Woodford Oil Company Prioritizes Safe Operations

At Woodford Oil Company, no aspect of business is more important than ensuring the safety of our employees, customers, and the local communities where we operate. We believe that safety is much more than just a checklist item. It is a fundamental part of our business operations, a cornerstone of our commitment to customer service and operating excellence.

Woodford’s Safety-First Philosophy

Beyond the routine aspects of operating any type of business, Woodford understands that the transportation, handling, and management of fuels, lubricants, propane, and other petroleum products and chemicals, presents unique challenges. For that reason, our Safety-First Philosophy is woven into the fabric of our operations and is a belief championed by management and embraced by employees.

To underscore and spread this philosophy, Woodford has created a Safety Committee made up of key managers and staff. The Safety Committee is tasked with fostering a safety-focused mindset throughout the company, by motivating employees to act safely at all times, and in all aspects of their lives—at work, at home, and everywhere in between.

Training underpins our approach to safety. The Safety Committee develops and implements safety training for management and staff, including regularly scheduled field and classroom sessions on a broad spectrum of topics relevant to our industry, such as spill prevention, hazardous materials (HazMat) security, confined space entry, operating powered industrial lift trucks, and hazard communication (HazCom).

The Safety Committee also is involved with bringing in professionals from the insurance and risk management industries to discuss important safety topics and provide insight on trends in safety and responsibility in the workplace.

Going Beyond Compliance

Our safety training is compliant with all federal, state and local regulations, including those of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA), and Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) requirements for general industry.

But Woodford’s safety training is about more than just compliance. Effective training empowers our employees with knowledge and skills that are fundamental to their welfare as well as the success of our business. Through the consistent application of our Safety-First Philosophy, we actively foster an environment that prioritizes the health and well-being of our customers, communities, and everyone else around us.

Stop Work Authority Program

One of the most empowering elements of our Safety-First Philosophy is our Stop Work Authority (SWA) program. This empowers any employee, regardless of their position, to halt operations if they observe an unsafe job or project situation.

The SWA program is not merely symbolic. It is an effective tool for preventing accidents before they occur, and reflects our belief that safety is everyone’s responsibility—from management, to dispatchers, drivers, and customer service representatives.

Safety: It’s Just Good Business

Customers who rely on our products and services can be sure that Woodford’s highly skilled staff are well-equipped to address safety proactively and professionally.

Through the consistent application of our Safety-First Philosophy, our goal is to actively promote a work environment that contributes to the safe practices and positive attitudes of all our employees. We believe this commitment to safety boosts employee morale, improves productivity, and leads to superior performance—which benefits our customers.

And that means safety is not just good policy, it’s good business. Learn more about Woodford’s approach to safety and our Core Safety Values.
